KEVIN RED STAR (1943- ) Kevin Red Star was born and raised on the Crow reservation in Lodgegrass, Montana, and his talent as an artistwas recognized at an early age.Red Star does Indian paintings inspired by his culture thatreflect the influence of his father and mother. His father was a musician, horseman, and collector of Remington and Russell prints, and his mother did meticulous beadwork and artistic sewing.Many of his subjects focus on the era of history at the turn of the century when the culture was in the state of dramatic transition. His extensive knowledge of Indian culture, costumes and design elements imparts an authenticity that remains unobscured by contemporary expression.
