Ruby red stone 925 china latch back gold tone pierced earrings

EUC bright ruby red oval shape stone signed 925 china. Not sure what the stone is (maybe rhinestone? Maybe gemstone?) but it is prong set open back and latch back closure for pierced ears. It is gold tone even though it says 925. Maybe the silver is under the gold? (And not sure if it is just gold tone or if there is a real gold overlay)
