Loss of Five Forks threatened Lee’s last supply line, the South Side Railroad. The next morning, Lee informed Jefferson Davis that Petersburg and Richmond must be evacuated. Principal Commanders: Major General Philip Sheridan (Union); Major General George Pickett (Confederate).
