His father Shri Bhim Sen Sachar participated in several satyagraha movements in pre-1947 period and suffered in jails. He was the Chief Minister in East Punjab, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and High Commissioner in Sri Lanka. An eminent Advocate by profession, he was appointed Judge of Delhi High Court in 1970, first Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court in 1975 and Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in 1985.
