"I Claim This Life or Looking Back at the Seven Bar" written and SIGNED by John W. (Dub) Bedingfield. Published 1977. From the first chapter:"...When night came, the men would sit around the fire, and start telling tales, while the women would gather in the kitchen to talk. Where ever they came from, or who ever they were, whether neighbors who were visiting, or strangers who stopped to spend the night, the subjects always seemed to be the same. I would lie on the floor by the fire and listen as the stories were told, back and forth. These tales, though told by different lips, by people from different parts of the country, always had a familiar ring, and yet brought chills of excitement to me, as I listened.Mad dogs were the favorite subject. It seemed that everyone, but me, had come face to face, or had been pursued by a mad dog, the most fearsome, and vicious of all creatures. They were described as foaming at the mouth, with green eyes, an the strength of ten dogs. They would pursue you, intent upon biting you, whereupon you would go mad, and do likewise. Each story teller knew of many instances of such tragedies, but he always escaped, just in the nick of time....it was same with panthers....."We have other New Mexico books in our eCRATER store.
