Poor Man's Books for the rare and obscure Description Title: ANDREE'S FLIGHT INTO THE UNKNOWN, IMPRESSIONS AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF AN EYE-WITNESS Author: Jonas Stadling Publisher: Century Format: Paperback Date: 1897 Price: 49.95 Item#: 31573 Seller Image: http://members.dandy.net/~mrbooks/31573.jpg Edition: Condition: Very Good Other Notes: Photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 10 pages; ANDREE'S FLIGHT INTO THE UNKNOWN--Impressions an photographs of aneyewitness, antique periodical appearance by Jonas Stadling, CenturyMagazine 1897, 10 pages with 13 black and white photos and a facsimilesignature. Just the article, not the whole magazine. Pages measureabout 9.5x6.5." I have only skimmed the long detailed text but it is my sense that itcovers the launching of the balloon which was attempting to reach theNorth Pole. There are good sized photos of the basket, the balloon, the workmen, the lift off etc. Nine of the ten page relate to the balloon and events leading up to the launch, the tenth page is about carrier pigeons. Andree took 30 pigeons along and they were supposed to send news backby bird mail. Of the 30 birds only one made it back to Stockholm. The last page is about the pigeons and shows a photo of a stuffed carrierpigeon. There's also a wiki on Jonas Stadling who wrote the article, but it'sin Swedish and I can't read it. I think it says he was a Swedish reporter who covered the event (Item #31573|0) - Multi Channel SellingPowered by eCRATER . List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
