Dan E. L. Patch was born on a Michigan farm. At 28 he moved to the city of Highland Park where he joined the police force in 1916. He rose through the ranks to the post of Chief of Police. He was esteemed by fellow townsmen and the citizens of the surrounding city of Detroit. He was a member of three Police Associations, an active member of the Baptist church, of the local evangelistic team, and more. He was married with three daughters, one of whom was a missionary for the China Inland Mission.
