This is a 1/8th shekel of the Phonecian city of Sidon from the 4th century BC. Sidon is the largest city in Southern Lebanon and an important seaport to this day. Possibly inhabited as early as 6000 BC Sidon may have been the birthplace of the Phonecian empire.
This coin is only 8.8mm in diameter, truly small change! On one side we have a King fighting a Lion, on the other a war galley is depicted.
