Tacca Nivea White
Also known as: White Bat Flower, Devil’s Whiskers, Cat Whiskers.
This species is more of a rare white form of the ever popular “Bat Flower” and offers magnificent white, green veined blooms with long tentacles. It is one of the strangest and most amazing flowers in the plant kingdom. Native to Asian rainforests, where they grow in the loamy understory, often in deep shade. It comes from the Taccaceae family and consists of long-lived, short stemmed, rhizomatous, or tuberous herbaceous plants. This one has the largest flowers of all Taccas. Each flower is about 5-8" across and has long tendrils that hang from it.
The plants reach about 1.2m (4 feet) in height in ideal conditions, but no where near that big where it can successfully be grown indoors. It will thrive in bright light, but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Should do well in the same conditions that orchids and many epiphytic ferns grow in, with ample humidity, strong airflow, and moderate light and temperatures.
Hardiness zones: 9-11 Plant will take light frost down to 3°C (37°F). Give the plants very little water through the winter and it would be ideal to provide a temperature of 15-18°C (60-65°F). As with any tropical, give the occasional mist spray through the summer. For fertilizer use, Miracle Grow mixed 1/4 teaspoon to 1 gallon of water. Repot every 2-3 years and remove decaying rhizome growth.
Germination can take from 1-9 months so be patient. Don't toss out your seed beds thinking they won't germinate!
*Regarding the difference between Tacca Integrifolia and Tacca Nivea White of which we offer seeds to both are: T. Nivea emerges with snow white bracts, which slowly age to have green veins. The foliage is a little lighter than T. Integrifolia, and the leaf stems stay light green, even in high light.
This offer is for 10 seeds.
For complete transparency we include payment processing & related fees in our shipping/handling cost. International buyers will have to email us for proper shipping costs and invoice. Please email us when you're done with your shopping cart if you're purchasing multiple plants or seeds, we may need to adjust proper combined shipping costs, thank you!
