The book is beautifully put together, well-illustrated, logically organized, readable without being simplistic or boring, and interspersed with interesting anecdotes. The unavoidable mass of sailing terms are introduced gently, in italics and with definitions the first time they are used, with a good glossary for reference. Complicated maneuvers are clearly explained and quite understandable, although readers must pay close attention. But the very best part of the book is implied in the title, and that is the invitation to venture out and explore. Burchard walks his readers through an imaginary overnight trip which will be tantilizing to any would-be sailors. Other than a clipped back cardholder flyleaf (ex libris), both the mylar-covered DJ and the book are in positively excellent condition.
