Video of Eilers explaining that her career started with this piece called "Ornamental Trees"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPQkxJkjhIoEllen Eilers creates amazing folk art paintings at her kitchen table, something she’s been doing for the past 40 years. Now 93 years-old, Ellen studied art in college but became an elementary school teacher and mother of four children before becoming a professional artist. Her works are destined to become classics — brimming with so much charm they make you feel happy, complete with a harmonious feeling you belong at home. This is an early piece that Ellen did when she was just starting.Measures approx. 6" x 9"About the ArtistEllen Eilers has been drawing and painting since early childhood. She was born and raised on a farm, which gave her an understanding and appreciation of nature.Eilers began offering her paintings at regional art shows in the early 1960s, and developed her “Calico Country” style about this time. She had taken a workshop on creating woodcuts, and started experimenting with patterns in landscapes. Another formative experience was teaching art to a class of what we would now call “at risk” children. Unaccustomed as they were to following rules, they were as apt to make a purple tree as a green one or of odd, geometric shapes instead of realistic ones. Far from being annoyed, Eilers was delighted, and from that time on, her own paintings began to show dashes of whimsy. She has enjoyed a long career of meeting people and selling her work at art shows and galleries across the Midwest. Ellen celebrated her 94th birthday this year. You can view a fantastic video about Ellen and her artwork on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4jYZIzKHwYHere is another great video interviewing Ellen on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPQkxJkjhIoFrom her facebook page verified that it is her workLonnie EllingsonEllen, i wanted to check on a woodcut that i bought and verify it is from your work, if i may.Karen Koch Hello Lonnie.
