Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty (reigned ca. 1504 - 1450 BC) often regarded as the greatest of the rulers of ancient Egypt. Thutmose III emerged as the sole ruler of Egypt and as a great conqueror after the death of Hatshesput. He consolidated all of Syria except Phoenicia into his empire and enriched Egypt with wealth and power. According to the stele of Thutmose III, over 350 cities fell to the Egyptians under his rule. There is little doubt that his numerous campaigns were extremely successful. He has in fact been referred to as the ""Napoleon of ancient Egypt"" because of his military expansion.
