1979, 65 min, USSR. Ekran, Mosfilm. Directed by Georgi Yungvald-Khilkevich. Starring: Oleg Tabakov, Mikhail Pugovkin, Lyudmila Krylova and Emmauel Geller. This cheerful musical comedy takes place in the 19th century. Retired officer Akaky Ushitsa is no longer young and has a prosthesis. He had no luck with his first two wives but, thank goodness, they both died. Now he's considering marrying the very charming, very young Verochka. Verochka's father is strongly in favor of the marriage, but the only thing she can think about it becoming an actress. The maid Katenka volunteers to help the poor girl, and together they have a great time making fun of both Verochka's fiancee and father. Many of the songs in the movie, written by composer Maksim Kunaevsky and poet Leonid Derbenev, became hits.
