A non-clustering, small fan palm with a trunk that usually stays underground. Leaves are much more costapalmate than the similar Sabal minor and look more like the leaves of Sabal palmetto. It can reach 6 feet in height and 5 feet in width. Native to sandy, inland areas of the Florida peninsula, it is extremely drought tolerant. Works well when massed in naturalistic areas. Hardy to zone 7b and above.
