A young couple, David (Nick Nolte) and Gail (Jacqueline Bisset) are vacationing in Bermuda. Avid divers, they discover and ampule on one of their dives. Enlisting the help of the local dive master Romer (Robert Shaw), he recognizes the ampule to be one out of a shipment of WWII-era morphine that was lost at sea. Romer, David, and Gail set out to recover the morphine only to discover that the wreck sits on top of the treasure of an earlier Spanish galleon. Unfortunately this scheme becomes knowledge to the local druglord Henri (Louis Gosset, Jr.) and Gail and David must stay one step ahead of the ruthless Henri, in the race to recover the drugs and treasure in The Deep.
