  • Description
Original oil painting - a moment in time along a treed country lane - two young girls walking towards a house in the distance, captured and interpreted by Grace Whitehead Phillips, no date.

Grace Whitehead Phillips (1893 - Jan. 16, 1960) lived in Allentown, PA and became a student at the Baum School in 1933. She painted landscapes and floral still life subjects. She exhibited with the Lehigh Art Alliance, Circulating Picture Club, Allentown Art Museum and the Philadelphia Art Alliance. In 1941, she had a one-women show at the Warwick Gallery in Philadelphia and at the Allentown Museum in 1948. She is listed as an instructor at the school in 1940. The Baum School owns a few of her paintings and they are in the Circulating Picture Club. (Information from the book "Walter Emerson Baum" by Martha Saxton.)

Ms. Phillips was a member of The Baum Circle, a group of artists either taught by, associated with, or directly influenced by Pennsylvania impressionist painter Walter Emerson Baum.
