I am the author of the copyrighted Wedding Plate Poem. The history of the poem dates back to the early 1960's. I needed a special wedding gift, but had very little money to spend. I had seen a pretty cake plate that I could afford in a small shop and decided to buy it with the thought in mind that the couple could perhaps celebrate each of their anniversaries with their cake on the plate.
When it came time to write a message on the gift card the night before the wedding, I wanted to say something that would make the plate more meaningful to them. Suddenly, the words to this simple poem tumbled into my mind and onto the paper. This small but meaningful gift was the hit of the day with everyone!
THE WORDS OF THE POEM:
This plate is meant to be broken, by either of you, when you are angry at the other. But, there is only this one plate, and there are two of you. So, if you always respect and are kind to each other, This plate could hold the cake for your Golden Wedding Anniversary!
From its humble beginnings, the Wedding Plate Poem has attended weddings worldwide and has even been shipped to The White House. Why not invite this special keepsake to the wedding, wedding anniversary or bridal shower near you?
The words of the poem are laser printed onto a transparency. This is then framed in double matting and decorated with flowers and bows to match each plate. In keeping with the original essence of this gift, I try to keep the cost of each plate as low as possible. I still decorate each plate myself and my husband takes care of the wrapping and shipping.
If you purchase a Corelle type plate, it is always a great added benefit that you can include your own note to let the couple know that you thought they might need more than just once chance to break their plate! Lots more fun!
