Panama covers over 484 kilometers (300 miles) and has approximately 20,000 residents, with more than 1,000 of those being foreign residents from around the world. The valley is situated on the eastern side of the volcano (extinct for over 500 years) known as Volcan Baru (one of 2 extinct volcanos in Panama), which became a National Park in June of 1976 and encompasses a surface area of 14,322.5 hectares (over 35,000 acres), rising to a height of over 12,000 feet above sea level. Rainfall is abundant at the higher elevations of Baru's 6 life zone areas. This unique eco-area provides recreation, flora, fauna, birds, animals and water features for the visitor to enjoy and marvel at. There are over 250 bird species found in the park boundaries, as well as animals such as the jaguar, tapir, puma, deer, coati, armadillo, rabbit, sloths (both 2 and 3 toed) and monkeys of various types. This area is the southernmost boundary of the sacred Quetzal bird, revered by civilizations from Mexico to western Panama throughout time.
The major industries are agriculture, ecotourism and of course, coffee. Boquete coffee is one of the world's best kept secrets, but the word is quickly spreading that the cool humid mountain air of western Panama produces some of the world's best coffee cherries. Recently, a world record $131 per pound was obtained at auction for a Geisha bean grown here. We roast this bean to the City Roast level (medium light) to bring out the complex origin flavors of this great coffee bean.
Our Single Origin Beans are just that, beans from a specific origin roasted just right to bring out the unique taste that is known for that particular origin bean.
All roasted coffees are shipped only as whole bean.
FYI: 1 lb. = full 16 oz. roasted coffee beans.
