SERIES: Satire

This is one of 100 cards featuring humorous cartoons and advertising the "Ariosa" brand of coffee that Arbuckles' issued in the late 1880s. All the illustrations were originally published in either Puck, Judge, or Texas Siftings, three of the more popular satirical periodicals of the day. Most typically aimed their derision at blacks, the Irish, country "rubes", or even the leisure class. This particular card was based on an 1887 Judge cartoon drawn by G. Hamilton and features a servant explaining to the lady of the house about the tedious chore she is performing.

The back carries Arbuckles' familiar "4 Points" sales pitch.

SIZE: 3" x 5"

DATE: Undated (but probably 1888 or 1889)

LITHOGRAPHER: Not identified

CONDITION: Fine, I'd say. This card is only lightly soiled with slightly worn edges and corners. There's a tiny pin hole near the lower left corner. (Please see scans.)

MULTIPLE ITEM SHIPPING DISCOUNT: I will ship up to 4 cards for the single base shipping charge shown. For purchases of more than 4 cards, the shipping charge will increase by just a small increment for every 4 additional cards.
