Victorian Trade Card - Arbuckle Brothers Coffee Company - "RESURRECTED" (#41)
SERIES: Satire
This is one of 100 cards featuring humorous cartoons and advertising the "Ariosa" brand of coffee that Arbuckles' issued in the late 1880s. All the illustrations were originally published in either Puck, Judge, or Texas Siftings, three of the more popular satirical periodicals of the day. Most typically aimed their derision at blacks, country "rubes", or the Irish. This particular card was based on an 1887 Puck cartoon drawn by L. Dalrymple and features a fellow who's apparently been trapped in a manhole for some time.
The back shows the Arbuckles' factory buildings, dock, railroad cars, and a ship.
SIZE: 5" x 3"
DATE: Undated (but probably 1888 or 1889)
LITHOGRAPHER: Not identified
CONDITION: Very fine, I'd say. This card is only very lightly soiled with just slightly worn corners. (Please see scans.)
MULTIPLE ITEM SHIPPING DISCOUNT: I will ship up to 4 cards for the single base shipping charge shown. For purchases of more than 4 cards, the shipping charge will increase by just a small increment for every 4 additional cards.
