1950s STANDARD OIL Prints (5) - Grand Canyon, Tetons, Glacier, Columbia River, Green River Lake
Here's a group of 5 beautiful old prints given away over 50 years ago for free (ah, the good old days) at gas stations operated by the Standard Oil Company of California. Included are:
1) The Grand Canyon, taken from Yavapai Point about half an hour before sunset by photographer Gene Morris. On the back is a brief narrative extolling the wonders and the lessons of the Grand Canyon, written by Clarence Budington Kelland, "eminent author who knows and loves Arizona as well as he writes about her".
2) The Grand Tetons taken by photographer Josef Muench. On the back is a brief narrative extolling the beauty and wonder of the Tetons, Jackson Hole, and Jenny Lake, written by Alfred A. Knopf, "publisher, chairman of Advisory Board on National Parks, Historic Sites, Buildings and Monuments".
3) Reynolds Mountain, Glacier National Park, Montana, taken by photographer Dick McGraw. On the back is an essay extolling the virtues of Glacier National Park, written by Freeman Tilden, "author of 'The National Parks, What They Mean to You an Me".
4) Crown Point on the Columbia River, Oregon, taken by photographer Ray Atkeson. On the back is a brief narrative describing the beauty of Crown Point and the Columbia River, written by Stewart H. Holbrook, "author, journalist, member Society American Historians".
5) Green River Lake, Wyoming, taken by photographer Ray Atkeson. On the back is a brief narrative describing the beauty and history of the lake, written by Struthers Burt, "author of 'Powder River' and other books".
Size: 11½"H x 14"W (actual image: 8¾"H x 11¼"W)
Condition: Generally fine to very fine, I'd say. All are clean with bright, fresh colors and only a few mild thumb bends here and there. A couple of the backs have some slight discoloration. (Please see scans.)
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
