A popular heirloom variety from the Carolinas, and one of the original parent-lines of the Mortgage Lifter variety. Highly prized for its pinkish-red fruit, large size, and scarcity of seeds. Can grow to 1 1/2 pounds. Great for slicing, canning, and sauces. This highly-productive variety is somewhat disease resistant.
Indeterminate (continues to produce all season), Open-Pollinated, 80 days from transplant.
Sow seeds in full sun, 1/8" deep in well drained soil. I add peat moss & some bone meal to my soil.
I fertilize with organic fish emulsion, tomatoes love it!
To control invasive pests, plant basil, chamomile, cosmos, marigold, chives around the plants. Be sure to space tomato plants at least 36" apart & since the tomato plants will spread, be sure to give the other plants enough space to get sun. If you like sunflowers, plant them away from the tomato plants and the aphids will go to the flowers instead of the tomato plants.
