One of a series of four fairy dolls celebrating the essence and magic of the four seasons, Solstice is made of painted muslin.
Her hair is of the softest yarn and was sewn in by hand. Her arms and legs are button-jointed and poseable. She has painted ballet shoes with ribbons that lace up her calves. Her top is made from a painted vintage doily, while her skirt is made of tulle and ribbon. There are delicate, iridescent snowflakes floating in her skirt. Her icy visage is soft-sculpted and then painted, and her frozen little fairy ears are made of polymer clay. Her lovely glacial-blue wings are made of wire and nylon, and painted several times and dusted with shimmering glitter.
The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and is marked in many cultures by diverse and ancient celebrations.
