After releasing four albums in as many years, it was high time to take stock of Charlotte Church's staggering career with this 18-track compilation. Five tracks come from her debut, 'Voice Of An Angel', three each from 'Charlotte Church' and 'Enchantment' (including her own favourite, 'Habanera' and her "really difficult duet" with herself on Delibes' 'Flower Duet') and a couple from 'Dream A Dream', including a new solo version of the title track. Thebig bonus for Church's many followers is the closing theme, 'All Love Can Be', taken from the hit movie 'A Beautiful Mind', which was composed by James Horner who also wrote 'My Heart Will Go On' for 'Titanic'. They ll also enjoy her song from 'A Christmas Carol', 'It's The Heart That Matters Most', not to mention three brand new tracks. Gabriel Faure's 'Tantum Ergo' and Pietro Mascagni s 'Sancta Maria' show off Church's versatility and she clearly loved belting out Paul Simon's epic 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Charlotte Church's career is already impressive and this prelude, which looks back, promises much more for her future musical adventures.
Since her debut bestselling album 'Voice Of An Angel' was released in 1998, Charlotte Church has remained very much in the popular imagination with a string of No.1 albums. Now the delectable Miss Church has decided its time for a look back at her astonishing career and has collected together some of the highlights so far. Just some of the 18 gems included are 'Pie Jesu', 'Panis Angelicus', 'La Pastorella' and 'Ave Maria'. The album also features five tracks previously unavailable on CD in the UK and the theme song from the oscar-winning movie 'A Beautiful Mind'. Charlotte Church is a singing phenomenon and the title of this album, 'Prelude', suggests there's more to come and, on the evidence of this collection, that can only be a good thing.
