Antique 19C Solid Coin Silver Fiddle Tipped Soup Punch Ladle S. P. Squire, NYC 214 grams!
This is a supersize Coin Silver (900/1000 purity) Soup or Punch Ladle from S. P. Squire of Philadelphia. It measures approximately 11½ inches long with an unusually large oval bowl measuring 4" across and 1-3/8" at the handle's widest point. Weighs approximately 214 grams total.
The ladle has a quadruple monogram with four fancy script initials. It is in very good antique condition with expected light scuffing and tarnishing. There is a 3/8 inch piece missing on the edge of the handle where it was tested for metal purity. It is marked on the back, S. P. Squire.
S. P. Squire was located at 97 Fulton & 182 Bowery in New York City from 1845 to 1853, and was owned by Bela Scovil Squire & Seth P. Squire.
