“Some always try
to bend and mold,
And snap the grip
of nature's hold.
When can one move
round in the light,
Instead of blunder in the night?
Is there no sun for all to see?
Is there no place
where men are free?
Where can one find
the joys of life
Without the stings
of inner strife?
Is there no hope
for some restrain,
To break the bond's
of freedom's claims
To move around
with head upheld, and fearing not to be repelled?
Is man forever
destined to be
Restricted, scorned
yet still not free?
When one accepts
all Nature's bounds
He sends her torments
swirling round.
He sought for tensions
own release,
And found contentment
joy and peace.
This frenzied time
of diffused light,
That's followed by
a blacker night.
So soon alone
quite old and gray,
He stumbles toward
that fruitful day,
With hope that someone
will in time,
Release the torment
from his mind.
And drop restraints
of mental strife,
To give this man
his chosen life.
As nature gave
to him his life,
Let nature also
give his strife.“
