This is a rare vintage UNREAD and out of print copy of Opus Deorum: Photography, by Jim French and published and distributed by State of Man for Colt Studio Group in 1992 featuring the nude male photography from photographer JIM FRENCH. This XX page HARDCOVER book and DUST JACKET measures 9.75 x 0.75 x 12 inches. See photos for condition.
OPUS DECORUM is a book without words. This is simply a portfolio of the artistry of Jim French, one of the more respected art photographers of the male nude. French's proclivity is for the massive muscular male captured wither in nature or in studio, always with an eye for light and shadow and settings that enhance the bulk of his models.
These are powerful images from Fire Island to Hawaii to Malibu to the studio. His models are graciously credited in the back of this portfolio along with the location and year when the photo session occurred. French seems to favor the body in extremis as far as posing. At times he allows his models to be at rest, but more often he has them engaging in some source of physical exertion that emphasizes the mass of the worked male physique. They are truly the "Work of the Gods" of the title.
The book is well designed and the photography is reproduced on the finest paper. For those who admire the study of the nude, this is a valuable addition to the library.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jim French [James Thomas French] (July 14, 1932 – June 16, 2017) was an American artist, illustrator, photographer, filmmaker, and publisher. He is best known for his association with Colt Studio which he, using the pseudonym Rip Colt, (and with business partner Lou Thomas) created in 1966. Thomas parted from the endeavor in 1974 leaving French to continue to build what would become one the most successful gay male erotica companies in the U.S.
Due to recent delivery issues with the USPS I now ship all items via Priority Mail. $100 of insurance is included in this price. I’m selling my collection of vintage 1960-1980s gay pulp paperback novels, pictorial & hardcore magazines, physique photography, magazines & artwork.
