I am not a railroad memorabilia person so I will have to let the experts decide for sure what this is - someone identified this is as a ribbon given to group tours riding the train. I appreciate anyone who can help me identify this piece to write and let me know.

According to an online source, the date 1883, which I assume appears as '83 on the item is right for the Denver & Rio Grande Railway which appears as D. & R. G. R'y. As for this item - I cannot find it anywhere online. In addition, it's not paper but some form of fabric. The writing on the ribbon reads: "Checked Through!. Denver to Salt Lake and San Francisco via D.& R. G. R'y. On the Desert! Grand Junction, Colorado From July 30th to August 6th '83. Man Proposes But God Disposes". It measures approximately 7-1/4" long and 2-1/4" wide.
In very good condition without stains, holes or tears.
