This item is a rare and vintage COLT STUDIO PRESENTATION publication titled MANPOWER No.7. NOTICE: Some of the drawings contained herein are dated copyright 1968 or 1969. Those and all other drawings are copyrighted anew each year. This magazine was produced in 1974 using heavy stock paper. It is oversized at 8-1/2” x 11” and is still in UNREAD condition. This item is DEADSTOCK and the original distributor never sold it; it has been in storage for over 40 years.
“This special edition of MANPOWER! will introduce the incredible artwork of Rip Colt to many people; for others, it will act as somewhat of an anthology of his work. In both cases, the occasion of this issue is a very welcome return to perhaps the most talented artist physique illustration has ever known. It was actually the initial appearance of Colt's work in 1967 that began the Colt Studio. He continued to supply increasingly complex and sophisticated drawings until 1971. Asked why he no longer draws for his own Studio, Mr. Colt replies, "Time. While I was working on the new leather drawing for the center spread of this issue, I was amazed at how long it took to do. I could have done half a dozen photography sessions. I frankly had forgotten how time consuming my technique is." And of course, it is that precise, highly detailed technique that gives his artwork such distinction.
In preparing this present collection, we have placed throughout the magazine occasional examples of source material used in Colt drawings. We feel they are interesting illustrations of how carefully - and inventively - the drawings are constructed. But the master warns about research such as this:
"Anyone can copy photographs; that can be done mechanically and technique you pick up as you go along- but it's the concept that's all important. You must have something to say first, otherwise your source material will take over." He neglects to add that it doesn't hurt to be a superb draftsman. That's something that will become readily apparent in the following pages, so be our guest and enjoy!“
Due to recent delivery issues with the USPS I now ship all items via Priority Mail. The below-cost price for U.S. customers is $7.95 for the first item and an additional $2.00 for each item thereafter. $50 of insurance is included in this price. I’m selling my collection of vintage 1960-1980s gay pulp paperback novels, pictorial & hardcore magazines, physique photography, magazines & artwork.
