Description
Scalibor Anti Parasite Collar
Scalibor® is an external antiparasitic collar for dogs that contains deltamethrin, a powerful insecticide and acaricide with repellent (anti-feeding) properties. It protects your dog against phlebotomonas (the agent that transmits leishmaniasis) for 12 months and also against ticks and mosquitoes (Culex pipens) for 6 months.
The Scalibor® collar gradually releases deltamethrin, the active substance, and allows its dissemination over the whole body of the dog through the cutaneous lipid layer. In a PVC matrix, deltamethrin (DTM) binds to a plasticising agent, triphenyl phosphate. Combined, they form complexes that are released regularly and continuously through friction with the collar surface and migrate through the skin lipid layer (see diagram).
Unlike conventional collars, this original patented technology allows deltamethrin to be applied directly and exclusively to the animal's skin and coat. There is no release through evaporation, no loss of active substance and consequently no odour.
For optimal protection, taking into account the time of diffusion by the animal, the collar should be applied one week before the dog is introduced into an infested environment.
EFFECTIVENESS AGAINST PHLEBOTOMUS BITES
Repellent effect against phlebotomus for 12 months. In recent years, due to changing weather conditions, the season of risk of leishmaniasis transmission by the phlebotomus has increased.
For this reason, over 2 years ago, MSD Animal Health decided to conduct new, longer efficacy studies of Scalibor® to investigate whether its high levels of repellency against the sand fly are adapted to these new climatic conditions.
In the studies carried out(1), Scalibor® demonstrated repellent (anti-feeding) efficacy against the phlebotomine sand fly of between 94% and 98% over 12 months.
TARGETED EFFICACY AGAINST DOG TICKS
Deltamethrin is active against ticks at all stages of development: larvae, nymphs and adults. Even in cases of severe and repeated infestations, the Scalibor® collar has a proven effectiveness against ticks. The infestations reproduced in the trials were severe (25 to 50 ticks) and repeated (10 successive infestations) (2). The following graph illustrates the results of a study, conducted on two groups of 8 beagle dogs (a treated group and an untreated control group), with repeated infestations with 25 ticks. The efficacy of SCALIBOR® averaged 93.6% by day 183 (6 months after collar placement).
EFFICACY AGAINST MOSQUITO BITES
A laboratory study conducted with the Scalibor® collar (3) showed an anti-feeding effect of over 98% against the adult Culex pipiens mosquito over the 27-week study period. Scalibor™ thus prevented most mosquitoes from feeding on the blood of treated dogs.
- Scalibor® can be used in dogs and puppies from 7 weeks of age.
- Scalibor® can be applied to pregnant and lactating bitches.
- Do not use in cats.
Important
Scalibor Antiparasitic Collar - Leishmaniasis is caused by a protozoan transmitted by an insect, in hot and humid areas of the globe, including Mediterranean countries such as Portugal.
The first symptoms are gradual hair and weight loss, besides generalised skin lesions. Although the disease is treatable, the debilitating state can be fatal.
The season most prone to attack by this insect is from March to November.
Follow some simple advice and protect your dog:
Keep your dog indoors during the hours of peak insect activity, from dusk to dawn. Protect your dog from 95% of bites during the active season with the Scalibor® ProtectorBand (internal reference).
Instructions for use: leave a space of 2 fingers between the neck and the collar; Before putting it on, remove excess dust from the collar surface with a damp paper napkin; For maximum effectiveness, clean the collar with a damp paper napkin, once a month; If an allergic reaction occurs, it is advisable to remove the collar and wash the affected area until signs are resolved; The collar should be put on 1 week before the animal enters an infested area.
Available in 2 sizes:
The 48 cm collar for small and medium dogs contains 0.76 g deltamethrin per collar
The 65 cm collar for large dogs contains 1.0 g of deltamethrin per collar
