Welcome! I have no idea what this is for, it seems to be some sort of salvage item. It looks like a corner piece, maybe the bottom 3/4 inch of the upright is meant to insert into a hinge piece and turn. It has scattered rust and some red paint at the bottom of the eagle on one side. It measures about 5 1/4 inches high along the upright side and extends out about 5 3/4 inches along the top. It is old, but solid and intact
