The head is crafted in the round with an ornate coiffure with full lips and almond-shaped eyes with incised pupils beneath gently curving brows. The “guardians of the gate”, are placed around the outside of a temple to serve both as greeters and defenders, they were specifically intended to protect the principle entrances of temples.
