Mid Century Linen Postcard in Good, Unused Condition. This card was published by Capitol Souvenir Co., of Washington, D.C.
Back of Card:
In the Banquet Hall at Mt. Vernon, Va., the central ornament is the mantlepiece, of Carrara and Siena marble, carved in Italy and presented by Samuel Vaughan, of London. The story goes that on its way to America, the mantel was taken by French pirates, who sent it to its destination uninjured when they learned that it belonged to Washington.
The large painting by Rembrandt Peale of Washington before Yorktown now hangs in the Corcoran Art Gallery at Washington.
