Harry G Aitken Landscape Painting on Robertson Tile Antique Porcelain
Welcome! Presenting an antique or vintage landscape painting on Robertson porcelain tile, by listed artist Harry G. Aitken, born in Trenton, New Jersey, 1867-1952. It measures 9 by 6 inches and is signed on the lower right "H G Aitken". Mr. Aitken worked for Trenton Pottery and the Onondaga Pottery (which later became Syracuse China), where he became the head of the decorating department. In addition to his work in china decoration, he was also a painter of oil and watercolor paintings. This painting is unique because it combines Aitken's professional skills in china decoration with his achievements as a painter on canvas and watercolor. There are some fleabites and one tiny chip at the edges, not affecting the image. Back of the tile is dirty and has wear marks. The tile could benefit from a gentle cleaning. Overall good to very good condition. The tile itself is 1/2" thick and quite heavy for its size, weighing 1 pound and 15 ounces, almost 2 pounds.
