I love the Rocoto plant! First it is a perennial, once you start one, it goes on producing abundant fruit, for more than 10 years!
PICTURES. First picture shows you the chili pepper. Second picture shows a plant with about 1 year, with many dozens of spicy fruits! Third picture shows a plant, just a couple of months old.
It is a shrub, and it is resistant to cold temperatures (and pests). It tolerates some minor frost, so if you are zone 9 try to grow it. Also, if you want to grow a pepper outdoors in a cold summer, this is the solution! I am able to plant out a rocoto pepper in Iceland and it will grow slowly and set flowers, while other peppers will never do that!
Second, these are very hot chilies, and somewhat big sized, so if they are dried, then will provide you with endless chilly to cook with!
Third, the plant is rather beautiful. With attractive violet flowers (unlike other peppers), hairy foliage, and apple-shaped red fruits.
Photo shows one of my 1 year plants.
Germination is easy, just like sweet peppers.

Try this rarity, the least cultivated of the 5 pepper species, which never got out of South America!
