This lovely gift book is beautifully organized and presented thanks to Sheila Pickles who edited the content. The book is called Love, Penhaligon's scented treasury of verse and prose. It contains a collection of poems, excerpts and essays about love and friendship in all its stages. Each 2 pages has a reproduction of a painting of a Romantic nature.
The book is divided into 4 sections:
1. Love Inspired
"Love should run out to meet love with open arms."
2. Love Fulfilled
"Because the birthday of my life Is come, my love is come to me."
3. Love Unrequited
"All's over, then, does truth sound bitter As one at first believes?"
4. Love Everlasting
"I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach."
This is a beautiful book that would make a great and lasting symbol of your love to your beloved. This is called a scented book but there is no trace of scent left. It is published by Harmony Books in hardcover with dark marbled cover (no dust jacket). It is a stated first edition. Book is printed on heavy paper and has a ribbon book mark. It is 111 pages. Condition is as new except there is a previous owner's name very neatly written inside the front cover.
