NEAL and BABE WHITE Service Station - Chicago, Illinois - 1950s Matchbook Cover
Description: Here's a nice vintage standard-sized matchbook cover for the Neal and Babe White Service Station, a gas station on North Kedzie Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. It was a Mobilgas / Mobiloil station the offered "COMPLETE BUMPER TO BUMPER SERVICE", "AUTO REPAIRING" and "TOWING". The back shows an mechanic looking under the hood of a 1940s-style automobile. The phone numbers are given in the old style as "INdependence 3-6599 and 3-9816".
There's no printing on the inside.
Produced by Janoway Distributers, Chicago
Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1.5" (closed)
Date: Not dated, but the style and old-format phone numbers certainly appear to be from the 1950s or earlier.
Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is just a bit soiled, and the striker strip shows some light usage. However, there's also some damage to the striker strip area, likely from rough removal of the staple that held the matches, along with a tiny pinhole which passes through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
