ALEXANDER NEVSKY Laserdisc Sergei Eisenstein 1938 Sergei Prokofiev N Cherkasov

Offered is a reconstructed version of Sergei Eisenstein's 1938 historical film, ALEXANDER NEVSKY, in laserdisc format. Starring Nikolai Cherkasov, Nikolai Okhlopkov, Andrei Abrikosov and others, Black and White, 111 minutes, Russian with English subtitles. Film score written by Sergei Prokofiev. Prokofiev's score was entirely re-recorded in hi-fi digital stereo by Yuri Temirkanov conducting the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, although the dialogue portions of the soundtrack were left unchanged. This enabled a new generation to experience Eisenstein's film and Prokofiev's score in high fidelity, rather than having to settle for the badly recorded musical portion that had existed since the film's original release. There is no version of the re-recorded score available on DVD.

The discs look fine to me, though I don't have a player to test them on. The outer sleeve has bent opening corners, there are a couple of other minor bends on the closed edges of the sleeve and a banged corner, lower spine side. The other minor issues I would classify shelf wear.
