THE DUTCH CUPBOARD Restaurant - 1950s(?) Matchbook Cover - Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Description: Here's a standard-size matchbook advertising "The Dutch Cupboard", a restaurant at 523 Baltimore Street in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It touts "DUTCH STYLE COOKING" and claims to be "Famous for Schnitz Un Gnepp, Shoo-Fly Pie, and Other Dutch Dishes", "JUST LIKE MOTHER USED TO COOK". It's also "N.T.A. Approved".
The phone number given is just four digits, "Phone 1093".
There's no printing on the inside.
Produced by Strayer-Beitzel Inc., York, Pa.
Actual Size: approx. 2" x 1½" (closed)
Date: Not dated, but that 4-digit phone number probably dates it to the 1950s or earlier, I would think.
Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is clean and the striker strip shows only light use. However, there's an extra set of staple holes that go through the striker strip and the front and back of the cover. Any unused matches and the stubs were completely removed, possibly with the original staple also being removed and replaced. (Please see scans.)
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
