THREE WONDERLANDS OF THE AMERICAN WEST by Thomas Murphy illustrations Thomas Moran
Listed is a copy of THREE WONDERLANDS OF THE AMERICAN WEST Being the Notes of a Traveler, Concerning the Yellowstone Park, The Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River, with a Chapter on Other Wonders of the Great American West by Thomas D Murphy with illustrations by Thomas Moran, N. A. This is a "New Revised Edition," the book having a copyright date of 1912, and this listed as a fifth impression of July 1919. In addition to 16 color reproductions of original paintings by Moran, this book contains 32 duogravures from photos and maps of the Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Canyon regions. Measures 9 3/4" x 6 1/2" and a little more than 1 1/2" thick; this book has 184 pages and features gold gilt in some of the embossing on the cover and spine.
This book is old, and has obviously been used, and so the binding is not really tight, though it is solid; there are no loose pages and the boards are firmly attached still. The last photo shows about the worst of the binding issue I could find. There is some soiling throughout, which I tried to show in some of the provided photos and some yellowing of the pages and of the edges. Shelf wear is what you might expect from a book of this age; the outer corners are banged and have worn areas; the top and bottom of the spine show wear; some rubbing and an ink stain on the back cover. Not bad for its age, but this book is not perfect. Good for collectors of Western history, a reading copy.
Let me know if you have any questions (especially prior to making a bid), and thank you for considering this book!
