Many farmers and ranchers used to make their OWN pulleys out of whatever wood or other materials they had on hand at the time. This is a pretty cool example of one of those.

Both the housing AND the wheel are wood. The "hook" is fashioned from an old piece of rebar. And the wheel is mounted through the center of the pulley with an old piece of iron which sticks out on each side (and is FIRMLY in place). The wheel spins well.

When we found this one it was VERY dry. Rick took it and applied SEVERAL coats of his special bees wax to revitalize it and bring out the wonderful colors in the wood.
There's just somethig so charming about these old pulleys. My husband has collected them for years. So much so that we finally started selling them. He buys every one we manage to come across! They are great for dressing up so many types of vintage decor....Maritime...Primitive....Rustic....Western.....they go beautifully with all...Indoor AND out. The (wooden) wheel spins freely!!! ROCK SOLID piece. LOVE the old rebar fashioned iron loop hook to the top!

Measures 18 3/4" long from the top of the rebar iron loop to the bottom of the wooden pulley (the wooden block pulley by itself is 15 1/4" long)....8 1/4" wide side to side and the block is 2 1/2" thick. The wheel itself is 1 1/8" wide.

VERY Nice old pulley
