Triple Hollyhock Traditional Japanese Katana

The Mon emblem of the Tokugawa clan is three hollyhock leaves inside a circle. The triple hollyhock has been a readily recognized icon in Japan, symbolizing in equal parts the Tokugawa clan and the last shogunate. Mons are Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual or family, like a family crest. The Tokugawa clan was a powerful daimyo family of Japan. The Tokugawa shogunate was the last feudal Japanese military government which existed between 1603 and 1868. The heads of government were the shoguns, and each was a member of the Tokugawa clan. This full tang 1060 carbon steel blade comes sharp and is double pegged. In the traditional katana style the blade has a heavy blood groove down the center while the handle features genuine ray skin with a cotton cord wrap and a cast zinc menuki and tsuba. The tsuka is also wrapped with the same cotton fiber with an ornamental menuki. The fuchi features the triple hollyhock emblem as well as the guard. A glossy blue wooden scabbard or saya houses the blade to protect it from the elements. Included is a sword bag and gift box.
