Sterling SANDWICH TONGS are 7.25 inches long and 2 inches wide and weigh 5.25 ozt. Marked Sterling and test to be solid silver at or above 90% (sterling is 92.5%).

DESCRIPTION: This piece is a recast from original Whiting Lily tongs. The tongs have a spot of silver covering the area that most likely had a hallmark. There is no sign that the silver was placed there to repair a break but it may have been to reinforce a weak spot in the cast--there is no weakness or flex currently in that location. It also appears that the tongs were not cast as a solid piece, but three pieces that were soldered together. There are cast marks (rough darker spots) throughout in recessed areas. These can probably be professionally buffed out. Very heavy and solid. I could not find sandwich tongs listed, but the smaller ice tongs retail for over $1000. The CONDITION is good with no apparent breaks, repairs or anomolies from the casting process other than the dark rough marks and the spot of silver. NO monograms.
