Forida Dairies Company 1954 Dairy Milk Crate
I bought this crate along with some others. They were all sitting outside when I found them. It wasn't until I got this home and started cleaning it up that I noticed that it had a weird SMELL to it. I'm not sure what the smell is. It doesn't bother ME because I'm not overly "sensitive" to smells, however we want to be crystal clear about it. To ME...it smells like the medicine Campho Phenique. It was obviously stored with or by something and the smell is in the wood. I can ONLY smell it when I'm right up ON it and put my nose directly into one of the four corners.....but I know some people are SUPER HYPER-SENSITIVE To smells....PLUS....i WORRY about what this will first smell like when it's been unpacked after several days sealed in a box. so now I"M being SUPER HYPER-SENSITIVE in OVER describing it for sale!
When I got it home I cleaned it and then I painted the wood black and the metal housing white and I re-painted the letters which are carved into the wood. It came out looking wonderful. This was a working dairy crate. It even still has the wire and original old tag hanging from it. It has drainage holes in the bottom. Would make a WONDERFUL old garden decor piece (because of the original built in drain holes it would make a WONDERFUL planter. Any number of functional uses!
This piece measures 16" wide by 13" deep. It is 10 1/2" Tall. RAW weight before it's even PACKED is close to 15 Pounds!
