The MIE FAM-1 is designed to detect, length- discriminate, and count individual airborne fibers in real time. Non-fibrous shaped particles (dust, smoke, fumes, etc.) are not counted, except in special cases of high concentrations of large irregularly shaped dust. The FAM-1 samples air continuously and the stream passes through a sensing stage where the fibers are detected. The flow of air containing the fibers (and any other particles) then passes through a membrane filter where all particles are retained (for additional analysis, if so desired). The MIE FAM-1 will detect chrysotile and amosite asbestos, glass fibers, carbon fibers, silicon carbide fibers, and many other fibers. Any fibrous-shaped particle whose length exceeds the set threshold (i.e. given by RATIO control setting on the FAM-1) and whose lenght-to-diameter ratio exceeds 3, approximately, will be counted by the FAM-1. Concentration Range: 0.0001 to 25 fibers per cubic centimeter. Detectable Fiber Length: 1 to 300 microns. Detectable Fiber Diameter: 0.2 to 20 microns. Counting sample periods: 1, 10, 100, and 1,000 minutes. Sample Flow Rate: 2 liters per minute. Weight 11.4 kg (25.0 lbs). Dimensions: 53 cm long, 35 cm deep, and 20 cm high (including cover).

I can guarantee this unit to be functionnal: power up, measurement, etc.
But the actual accuracy of the unit is unknown:
May requires a calibration then ?
