This copy of Bunnies, Crocodiles and Me Stories of Baby Beginnings is a HB with a DJ. It is edited by Frederic Houssin and Cedric Ramadier. It was published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Publishers. Condition: New/Very Good--this book is new (it came from a closed bookstore that sold new books); there is a bit of rubbing wear on the DJ.

Grade 2 Up-New beginnings, whether it be of the Earth or of a day, a live birth or the hatching of a dinosaur egg, are the focus of this wildly eclectic picture book. A monster reluctantly enters the world and immediately begins fighting with his brother. Two bunnies, illustrated white on black as in a sonogram, snuggle close, until a light dazzles them and they are born. Perspectives change. In one story, the narrator is a cow growing inside its mother's belly; in another, the nightmarish anxieties of an expectant dog are explored. Each selection features the work of a different artist, but the paintings and watercolors share a similar intensity of color and design. They are modern in presentation, dense, and uniquely stylized. Separating a few of the diverse "chapters" are double-page independent art pieces by Peter Allen, the only illustrator to be represented more than once. His work, which features simple drawings lined in blue of humans and animals, are light in tone. They provide emotional and intellectual respite between chapters. The sophistication of this book is undeniable. While children may enjoy parts of it, adults will be more appreciative of its breadth and depth, its candor, and its subtle charms.
