Gourmet Magazine, founded in 1941, was the first American magazine devoted to fine food and wine and, by the time it ceased publication in 2009, had become a revered institution. Showcasing some of the most literate food writing of the century, Gourmet featured not only recipes and techniques but also travel, restaurants, history, recreation, and gardens – all extensively researched, insightfully written, and lavishly photographed, especially the luxurious, mouth-watering centerfolds. The 1970s and '80s were a golden age for the magazine, when it successfully married the sophisticated culinary traditions of the past with the emerging interests in local ingredients, ethnic cuisines, and exotic foreign travel. These are magazines that cooks preserve as special treasures, even as they use them for discovering new ingredients and preparing new dishes.
Magazines: Very good to good condition overall. Shelf and edge wear, some scuffing, corner bumps, light toning. Insides very clean. Binder: Good condition. Scuffing, wear to cover, white spot on spine. Metal oxidation and wear on inside covers from metal frames at top and bottom.
