Qwill, Koko, and Yum Yum return for another adventure “400 miles north of everywhere” in the twelfth episode of the extraordinary popular Cat Who . . . series.
Back in Pickax after an overly eventful visit Down Below, Jim Qwilleran expects to resume the quiet life he has grown to appreciate, but the people and animals of Pickax have other ideas. A noisy cardinal wakes him every morning. Nosy neighbors drop by uninvited, hoping for a tour of Qwill’s new home, a converted apple barn. The Siamese misbehave, complaining about their food, stealing Qwill’s collection of printer’s blocks, even sneezing on guests. As if that weren’t bad enough, Qwill’s longtime companion acts as though she is in love-with another man. But worst of all, Qwill finds a body in his apple orchard.
No one in Pickax is sorry to learn that Hilary VanBrook, the town’s despised high school principal, is dead. Brilliant, secretive, and extremely arrogant, VanBrook made a career out of offending parents, teachers, and students alike. Just about everyone in town had a motive for murder, and Qwill figures that this crime will go unsolved-to protect the guilty. But when a friend becomes the chief suspect, Qwill’s mustache quivers-a sure sign that things are not as they seem. Never one to ignore warning signals, he embarks on a crusade to clear Dennis Hough’s name and win back Polly Duncan’s heart. Even Koko stops his caterwauling long enough to sniff out a few clues.
But will their efforts be too little too late? Not even Koko knows for sure, in this quirky, engaging romp through rustic Moose County.
Book is in very good condition, no tears or turned down pages noted. Jacket is in good condition with some wear at the top and base of the spine jacket. Spine on the book is nice and tight. Pages are in very good condition. There are no odors detected or stains noted on pages. Great book for your library!! Our home is smoke free.
