ABOUT THIS BOOK: Currier & Ives had originally established themselves as publishers of COLORED ENGRAVINGS FOR THE PEOPLE and CURRIER AND IVES: PUBLISHERS OF CHEAP AND POPULAR PICTURES..
This partnership grew to a collaboration of many artists who learned the technique of lithography and created many masterpieces that mirror the national taste, weathervanes of popular opinion, and reflectors of American attitudes in the years from 1835 to 1907.
This is a special edition collection of their most celebrated work. There are biographies of each artist featured and many beautiful color and black-and-white plates. Their attention to detail was immaculate and these are timeless works of art. These span political, natural history as well as nature scenes and humor. This is definitely a collector's item for all art lovers.
The prints in this book are taken from the collection of Mr. Harry T. Peters, the foremost collector of Currier and Ives in the world.
