Hand thrown pottery squat pot with lid tea caddy potpouri tobacco spices signed hc2735
A really nice hand thrown pot with lid made from a rather grainy cream clay and decorated with splashes of gray and a matte glaze. It is signed but not so clearly I can swear to the name. Looks like C Allinson.
This squat pot has a snugly fitting lid that goes deep into the pot making it very usuable for tea, tobacco, potpouri, or herbs and spices. The pot and lid are both finished inside and out. They have never held anything so there will be no conflict no matter what you choose to put in it. The pot is 15 inches around (circumference) and 4.5 inches high including the lid. The opening of the pot is 2 1/8 inches in diameter.
This is a really nice piece that displays beautifully either alone or as part of a pottery collection. I do not know how old this is. I bought it from a collector's estate several years ago. It could be as old as the 1960s or as recent as 15 years old.
